It is usual for ultra-wide zoom lens offering a wide spectrum, but 2x Sony 11-18mm only a factor of 1.6, which puts them in something of a disadvantage from the outset supported.
Despite its small mass, the lens has a solid feel that is complemented by an almost cylindrical shape, which is broken only by the board on the front accessory thread. The zoom ring is closer to the camera, and is only slightly wider than the manual focus ring, in order to avoid serious, whether the adoption of a secure grip on the lens.
This is an important aspect, because the manual focus ring rotates when the AF mode is set, and it is important not to hinder the movement of the ring. Manual adjustment of focusing distance is not possible in AF mode. There are quarter-turn to throw in order to concentrate of 0.25 m to infinity, but a little 'less from 11 millimeters to 18 millimeters of zoom.
MTF tests showed that excellent results were still unsatisfactory. The numbers are not significantly less than 0.25 cycles per pixel falling in the middle of the range of opening up to f/11 maximum aperture, but also not very far above the critical value. There was some chromatic aberration, but do not cause as much as a serious problem.
